Most people think of the Christmas season as a joyful or peaceful time, but crime still happens on the holidays. We found some interesting crimes that took place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in North Carolina, and we wanted to share a few of those with you. Check these stories out.
Last year (2019) on Christmas Eve three suspects were arrested for a burglary in Catawba County. The suspects included a woman and two men. They were stopped, and stolen items were found in their vehicle in addition to marijuana and methamphetamine. On the same day, Christmas Eve last year, there were six people shot in a parking lot in High Point. It was suspected to be a drive-by shooting, and it is unclear if a suspect was ever identified or if an arrest was made.
On Christmas Day in 2018, a woman led police into a high-speed chase across multiple counties after she had committed several crimes. A FOX8 article released said the woman was “arrested and charged with three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a residence, larceny of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.” She was a suspect for two other break-ins and had previously been charged for possession of methamphetamine.
Many years ago, in 1929 on Christmas Day, a North Carolina man murdered his family. The farmer killed his wife and six of his children then committed suicide. One son survived only because he wasn’t home when the shooting took place. No one understood for sure why the father did it. Later, information came out that he may have been hiding a relationship with one of his daughters, and he was trying to cover up her pregnancy. The locals’ curiosity surrounding the crime led to the home and gravesite becoming tourist attractions for a few years after the event. A bluegrass song was even written and recorded about the murder.
